Social Listening

2 min read · Updated 19 Jul 2026

Some of the best SEO and brand-building happens in conversations, not on your own site. Social listening finds the Reddit and Quora threads where your topics come up each week, so you can join in with a genuinely useful answer.

How it works

The first time you open it, you review a short list of listening phrases (RankAgent can suggest them from your keywords and profile, or you type your own) and approve them. Nothing scans until you approve — you're in control of what it looks for.

After that, once a week it searches for public threads mentioning your phrases and drops them into an inbox — "Conversations to join." Each thread shows:

  • A platform badge (Reddit or Quora)
  • An "asking for help" tag when the title is a question
  • The phrase that matched
  • 💡 Talking points — 3–4 AI-suggested angles you could speak to, value-first, with a note to disclose that it's your product if you mention it

You mark each one saved, replied, or dismissed. Hitting "I replied ✓" logs it to your History timeline as proof of work.

Threads worth a reply this week, each with angles — not a canned response.

What it does and doesn't do

No accounts, no auto-posting

This is the important part. RankAgent never connects your social accounts and never posts anything. It finds threads by searching Google's index (via DataForSEO's site:reddit.com / site:quora.com search) — so it holds no credentials and can't get your accounts banned. The talking points are angles to speak to after you read the thread — never a paste-ready reply, because a good reply depends on the actual conversation. You post, by hand, from your own browser.

  • Sources: Reddit and Quora only. Facebook and X aren't supported (their content is gated behind logins/APIs) — the panel says so honestly and gives a manual recipe instead.
  • Cadence: a weekly scan across up to three keywords plus your approved topics; finds expire after 30 days so the inbox stays current.
  • An empty week is a real answer, not a bug — sometimes there just isn't a good thread to join.

Plan

Social listening is included on all paid plans. It's dormant until DataForSEO is connected (a founder setup step) and its AI talking points need the AI provider configured — until then it shows an honest "not available yet" state rather than fabricating threads.

Next: the agent takes this further — proposing and applying work for you, with approval.
