Keywords & Search Console
4 min read · Updated 19 Jul 2026
SEO with no keyword in mind is just guessing. RankAgent makes you pick a target first, then measures everything — titles, headings, content, rankings — against it.

Keyword-first by design
On paid plans a site's other tabs stay locked until you've set at least one target keyword. Remove every keyword and they lock again. It's a deliberate guardrail: a recommendation is only useful when it's tied to a keyword you actually want.
Choosing your keywords
Type the terms you want to rank for. RankAgent's AI then does two things:
- Rates your own list — for each keyword you entered, it estimates difficulty and intent, adds a one-line note, and sometimes suggests a sharper phrasing you can adopt with one tap.
- Suggests more — grounded in your actual page content, so the ideas complement your list instead of repeating it.

There's also a built-in guide on picking good keywords, including a free Google Keyword Planner walkthrough — because there's no free keyword-volume API, we teach you to gather volumes, then bring them back.
Idea sources: your site and Search Console
Two helpers make picking targets easier. From your site — RankAgent extracts candidate keywords from your homepage when you add the site, so you can assign them as primary or secondary in one tap. From Search Console — if GSC is connected, it surfaces your real top queries from the last 28 days (with position) and lets you add each as a target instantly. Not connected yet? It offers the GSC connect right there.
Keyword-optimization analysis
Once your keywords are set, the Fixes tab shows how well each page covers them — presence in the title, H1, meta description and body — and flags the gaps. Every gap has a one-click AI fix that rewrites the element to include the term naturally.

Cannibalization check
LiveStarter and up
RankAgent warns when two or more of your pages target the same keyword in their title or main heading — a common reason Google can't decide which page to rank. It's based on your latest crawl (no external cost) and shows nothing when there's no risk. Once GSC is connected, it's complemented by impression-based cannibalization — pages splitting the same query's impressions.

The "position zero" optimizer turns your target keywords and page content into ready-to-paste answer blocks — the query as a heading plus the answer in the format Google is most likely to pull (paragraph, list or table), each with a "why" and a copy button.

Free rank tracking via Google Search Console
Connect Google Search Console (read-only) and RankAgent pulls your real positions, clicks and impressions — then matches them to your target keywords. This is genuinely free rank tracking: it's your own Search Console data, not a scraped estimate.

GSC data also powers impression-based cannibalization detection — when two of your pages compete for the same query and split its impressions.
Real keyword data — research & metrics (DataForSEO)

Everything above works on your own site data and AI guidance. When DataForSEO is connected, two panels add real third-party numbers:
- Keyword metrics — real search volume, difficulty (0–100), intent and CPC for your target keywords (Google Ads data), with a location selector.
- Keyword research — expands your targets into long-tail and related searches, each with volume, difficulty, intent and an "opportunity" score; add one to tracking with a tap.

Two different things — don't confuse the tiers
AI keyword guidance (rating your list, suggestions, snippets, cannibalization) is on Starter and up. Real DataForSEO metrics and research are on the branding tiers (Founding, Growth, Agency) — the metered real-data layer. Refreshes roughly every two weeks (cost-bound and cached); the opportunity score is a guide, not a ranking promise.
Plan
Keywords, keyword-optimization, cannibalization, snippets and GSC rank tracking are Starter and up (Free has no keyword features). DataForSEO search-volume/research is Founding and up, dormant until connected.
