What is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?+

GEO is the practice of getting your business cited, quoted or recommended inside AI-generated answers — in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google's AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot. Where traditional SEO competes for a ranking position, GEO competes for a mention in the AI's answer.

Is GEO the same as AI search optimization or AEO?+

They overlap heavily. 'AI search optimization' and 'Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)' describe the same goal from slightly different angles: being the source AI trusts and repeats. GEO is the most common term for it. The underlying work — clear, structured, trusted, crawlable content — is the same.

How is GEO different from regular SEO?+
