Someone searches "CA near me" or "chartered accountant for GST filing in [city]", Google shows a three-listing map pack, and most people call one of those three without scrolling further. Getting into that pack starts with a fully built Google Business Profile, consistent listings on JustDial and Sulekha, real reviews, and a website with a separate page for each service you actually offer, not one vague "our services" page. Most of that work costs nothing but time, and it's newly relevant because the rules that used to keep CA firms off Google entirely just changed.

What just changed for CA firms in India?

ICAI's Council approved a revised Code of Ethics in December 2025, effective 1 April 2026, that loosens decades-old restrictions on how a CA firm can market itself. The write-up a firm is allowed to publish about itself now explicitly covers digital and social channels, not just print, which is why most CA firms simply didn't market themselves online before this and relied on referrals instead. For non-exclusive services, meaning consultancy, accounting, GST and ITR filing rather than statutory audit, firms can actively promote themselves and list on aggregator platforms; audit and attestation work stays "pull only", available on request, not pushed out. Client names can appear with the client's consent.

The restrictions that still bind matter just as much for how you write your site: no testimonials or client endorsements, no "best CA firm in [city]" or "#1 rated" claims, no comparing yourself to other professionals, no banner ads, and nothing that reads as soliciting people to visit your website through ads or circulars. Ranking for people who are actively searching, i.e. what this whole article is about, is different from that kind of solicitation, but the specifics matter for a regulated profession. This isn't legal advice; check ICAI's Advertisement Guidelines yourself, or with ICAI directly, before publishing anything client-facing.

What should your Google Business Profile actually say?

Pick the most specific category your listing offers, "Tax Consultant" or "Accounting Firm" rather than the generic "Business Management Consultant," and list every service by name in the services section: GST filing, ITR filing, company registration, audit and assurance, bookkeeping, so the profile matches the exact phrase someone types. If you run more than one branch, each location needs its own separate, verified profile rather than one listing covering every office. Real photos of your office and team read as more trustworthy than a logo alone, and a profile that's been updated recently signals an active business over a dormant listing.

Do JustDial, Sulekha and IndiaMART still matter for a CA firm?

Yes, with the same non-exclusive/exclusive split as above: list your non-exclusive services (GST, ITR, bookkeeping, tax consultancy) on JustDial, Sulekha and IndiaMART, but keep statutory audit and attestation off aggregator listings, since those remain pull-only under the guidelines. Wherever you do list, use the exact same business name, address and phone number as your Google Business Profile. We cover why that consistency matters and how to fix a drifted listing in local business citations in India.

How do you get reviews without crossing an ICAI line?

Google reviews that clients leave on their own, in their own words, aren't the "testimonials" the guidelines restrict; that rule is about a firm publishing quotes from happy clients as its own marketing copy. So ask satisfied clients to leave a Google review after a filing is done or an audit wraps, and reply to every review, good or bad, with a specific, calm response. What you shouldn't do is take a nice review and republish it as a "what our clients say" section on your own website; that crosses from a third-party review into a testimonial you're using to promote yourself, which the guidelines don't allow.

What should each service page on your website include?

Give GST filing, ITR filing, company registration and audit and assurance their own dedicated page with real text describing what the service covers and who it's for, rather than one page listing everything in a table. LocalBusiness schema (paired with ProfessionalService where your CMS supports it) gives Google something structured to read about what you do and where, instead of guessing from prose; how to add schema markup without code walks through adding it without a developer. If you want to name a client on a service page, get their consent first, and for exclusive CA services show only the client's name, not the nature of the assignment.

Does AI search know your firm exists?

When someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity "which CA in [city] handles GST filing for small businesses," that answer draws from the same web presence Google reads, your service pages, your schema, your reviews. A single "our services" page with no real text won't get cited; the fix is the same page-per-service and schema work covered above, not a separate project. Our free AI visibility checker shows whether AI tools currently mention your firm at all.

What does CA-firm SEO cost in India, and is an agency worth it?

Agencies selling local SEO to CA and accounting firms typically quote in the same ₹15,000–₹50,000/month range as other professional-services retainers, mostly for the Google Business Profile, listing-consistency and service-page work described above. What's a fair SEO retainer in India? breaks down what that fee should actually include. A firm owner or office manager can do most of this directly once it's set up correctly; where an agency earns its fee is consistent monthly execution across multiple branches, not a one-time profile setup billed every month as "ongoing optimization."

Where do you actually stand right now?

Run your site through a free SEO audit. It checks your page titles, meta descriptions, mobile speed, schema markup and basic security in about a minute and hands you a plain-language list of what to fix first. If you don't have a website yet, a fully verified Google Business Profile with consistent, correctly-split directory listings is still a legitimate place to start.

Frequently asked questions

Can chartered accountants in India advertise now?

Partially. Since 1 April 2026, ICAI's revised Code of Ethics lets firms promote non-exclusive services (like GST filing, accounting and consultancy) more actively, including on digital channels and aggregator listings. Exclusive CA services like statutory audit stay "pull only," available on request rather than advertised, and testimonials, superlative claims and banner ads remain off-limits regardless of the service.

How do I get my CA firm to show up in Google's local map pack?

Claim and fully complete your Google Business Profile with the most specific category available, list every service by name, and build a steady flow of recent, specific Google reviews, while keeping your name, address and phone number identical across Google, JustDial and Sulekha.

Are Google reviews the same as testimonials under ICAI's rules?

No. A review a client posts on Google of their own accord is different from a testimonial you select and republish as marketing copy on your own website. Responding to reviews is fine; quoting them in a "what our clients say" section is not.

Do I need a separate page for every service my firm offers?

Yes. A single "our services" page listing GST filing, ITR filing and audit together tells Google and AI search tools far less than a dedicated page per service with real detail, and it's what a searcher looking for one specific service actually wants to land on.

How much does SEO cost for a CA firm in India?

Agencies typically quote ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 a month for a single-office firm, mostly for Google Business Profile management and listing consistency, work you can also do in-house once it's set up correctly.

Can I list my CA firm on JustDial or similar aggregators?

For non-exclusive services like GST and ITR filing, yes. For exclusive CA services like statutory audit and attestation, ICAI's guidelines keep those pull-only, so they shouldn't appear on aggregator listings the way a general consultancy service can.
