SEO for a physiotherapy clinic in India comes down to four things: a verified Google Business Profile, one web page per condition you treat, a separate page for each area you serve on home visits, and a steady trickle of honest patient reviews. Patients search "physiotherapist near me" or "back pain treatment in [your area]" on a phone and call whichever clinic looks closest and trusted. Keep your claims factual, because "guaranteed cure" wording can fall foul of India's consumer advertising rules.

What do patients search for before they book a physiotherapist?
Almost every search is local and tied to a problem: "physiotherapist near me", "frozen shoulder treatment in Indiranagar", "physiotherapy at home for knee pain", "sports injury physio". Some people search by condition without a place and then choose from the map results Google shows.
So the first thing a patient sees is usually your Google listing, not your website. The website's job is to back that listing up: show that you treat the thing they typed, and make it easy to call or message you.
How should you set up Google Business Profile for a physio clinic?
Claim and verify the profile first, then pick an accurate primary category and fill in every field honestly. The category is where physio clinics trip up, because Google's category names vary by country. We could confirm "Physical therapy clinic" exists in Google's category list, and "Physiotherapist" shows up as a category in the UK. We couldn't confirm the exact India wording without opening a live India profile editor, so open yours, search "physio", and choose the closest match to how you work.
Then add each service by name (for example "sciatica treatment", "post-surgery rehab"), your real opening hours, and photos of the actual clinic. If you want a longer walkthrough of the profile itself, our guide to Google Business Profile optimization in India covers it step by step.
If you only do home visits, Google's guidelines treat you as a service-area business. If customers don't come to your address, Google says to hide it and list the areas you serve instead. Showing a flat or residential address as if patients can walk in is a common reason profiles get flagged.
Which pages should a physiotherapy website have?
One page for each condition you treat, and one page for each area where you do home visits. That is the whole structure, and most clinic sites have neither.
A single "Services" page that lists "back pain, neck pain, knee pain, shoulder pain" in a row can't rank for any of them. A page called "Frozen shoulder treatment in Koramangala" can. Each condition page should say who it's for, how an assessment works, how many sessions people usually need (a range, not a promise), what a first visit costs if you're willing to say, and how to book. Add a short FAQ at the bottom, written the way patients actually ask.
Home-visit pages work the same way. Name the neighbourhoods you cover, the kind of cases you take at home, and how far ahead people should book. Don't copy the same page ten times with only the area name swapped, because near-identical pages tend to be treated as thin. Write at least a few lines that are really true for that area.
Put your phone number and a WhatsApp link at the top of every page, so a patient on a phone can reach you in one tap.
How do you get physio reviews without breaking Google's rules?
Ask every patient, in person, right after a good session, and never offer anything in return. Google's contribution policy bars offering payment, discounts or free services in exchange for a review, so "10% off your next session if you review us" is the wrong move and can get reviews removed.
What works is simple. Show the QR code or short link at the reception desk, send the link by WhatsApp the same evening, and reply to every review, including the bad ones, in plain words. Don't ask for five stars, and never write reviews yourself or ask staff to. If you want to understand how much reviews matter for ranking, we broke it down in do Google reviews affect local SEO ranking.
What are you allowed to say in physiotherapy ads and web pages?
Stay factual. We're not lawyers, and this is our reading of public sources, so check anything borderline with a healthcare lawyer or your state council.
The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 covers false and misleading advertisements, including false guarantees about the quality of a service, and the Central Consumer Protection Authority's 2022 guidelines on misleading advertisements apply to service providers too. "Guaranteed cure in 5 sessions" or "100% recovery" are exactly the kind of line to leave out. Say what you assess and treat, and who treats it.
Your title is a live question. Physiotherapists are regulated under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021. Whether they may put "Dr." before their name is not settled across India. In September 2025 the health directorate (DGHS) wrote that they may not, then withdrew that letter a day later for further examination. The Kerala High Court dismissed a challenge in January 2026 and declined to strip the title under that Act. Older rulings from Patna, Madras and a Bengaluru city court went the other way. Until it's clear for your state, the safe choice is to write "Physiotherapist" and your degree, such as BPT or MPT, and leave "Dr." off the page.
We checked whether the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, 1954 applies to ordinary physiotherapy service pages, and couldn't establish that it does. It targets drugs and magic remedies. If you also sell supplements or devices from your site, the rules get stricter, so ask first.
What does local SEO for a physio clinic cost in India?
Doing the basics yourself costs your time and nothing else: the profile, the condition pages, the reviews and your listings on JustDial and Practo. We couldn't find a published agency price for physio-specific SEO from a source we trust, and the vendor pages we read only quoted website-build prices, so we won't put a number on it. If an agency quotes you a monthly fee, ask for the deliverables in writing, and ask what's different from what you could do in a weekend. Our piece on what a fair SEO retainer looks like in India gives you questions to ask.
One honest caution on timing: nobody can promise you a position on Google. Profile and review work tends to show up first, while new pages take longer, and a crowded area like central Bengaluru or Mumbai is slower than a smaller city.
How can you check what's wrong with your clinic's site today?
Run your website through a free audit before you spend anything. It checks whether Google can read the site, whether each page has a real title and description, and whether the site loads on a phone, which is where your patients are.

If you run this for several clinics, for example as a freelancer, the same audit becomes a white-label report you can send to each owner. See the sample client report to judge whether it's useful before you pay for anything.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get my physiotherapy clinic on Google Maps in India?
Claim and verify a Google Business Profile, choose the closest physio category your profile editor offers, list each service by name, add real photos and hours, and keep your name, address and phone number identical on JustDial and Practo. Then ask patients for honest reviews.
What keywords should a physiotherapy clinic target?
Pair each condition with your area, such as "sciatica treatment in Baner" or "physiotherapy at home in Jayanagar". Specific searches like these are easier to win than "physiotherapist" on its own.
Can a physiotherapist use "Dr." in advertising in India?
It's disputed. The rules have shifted since 2025, and courts and regulators have not agreed on one answer. Writing "Physiotherapist" with your BPT or MPT degree avoids the problem.
Can I offer a discount for a Google review?
No. Google's policy prohibits offering payment, discounts or free services in exchange for reviews. Ask in person or by WhatsApp and make no offer in return.
Do I need a separate page for home visits?
If home visits are a real part of your practice, yes. One page per area you serve, each with genuinely different detail, gives you something to rank for in each neighbourhood.
Is SEO worth it for a small physiotherapy clinic?
For most clinics the map listing and reviews cost almost nothing and bring the nearest patients, so they're worth doing. Paid agency retainers are a separate decision, and you should see the deliverables before you commit.
How long does physiotherapy SEO take to show results?
It depends on how many clinics compete in your area, and no one can promise a rank. Expect profile and review changes to show up before new web pages do.
