Google Business Profile first, always. It's free, it's what shows up in the Google Maps pack and regular search results, and it's a real data source for Google's AI Overviews. JustDial is a paid channel worth adding on top, not a replacement, and only once your free listing is actually complete.

What each platform is actually selling you

Google Business Profile is a free listing tied to your spot on Google Maps. Fill it in, verify it, and it can show up in local search results and the map pack next to your competitors, at no cost. JustDial is a directory and lead-generation service: a free basic listing exists, but the visibility that actually gets you calls sits behind paid packages.

They're not really competing for the same job. One is Google deciding whether to show you for free. The other is a company selling you placement inside its own search results. Most guides treat them as equal alternatives and tell you to "use both" without saying which one to fix first when you only have an hour this week.

Why Google Business Profile wins the priority fight

Three things decide who Google shows for a nearby search, by Google's own documentation: relevance (does your profile match what someone typed), distance, and prominence (how well-known you are, built mostly from reviews and links). You control two of those three completely, and it costs nothing to try.

The part almost nobody writing about this comparison mentions: Google Business Profile data is now a real input into AI-powered search. A 2026 study on which sources AI systems cite for local business questions found Google Business Profile is the single largest source, appearing in roughly 28.5% of local citations across ChatGPT, Google's AI Mode, and AI Overviews combined. A paid JustDial listing doesn't feed into that pipeline at all. It buys you a better spot inside JustDial's own search results, not a presence in the AI answers a growing number of your customers are asking instead of googling.

What JustDial actually costs, from its own rate card

Most comparisons quote a vague number for JustDial pricing, somewhere between "a few thousand" and "₹1 lakh," without a source. Here's what JustDial itself publishes and discloses: its own Advertise page lists Standard placement plans priced by the day, roughly ₹40 to ₹123 per day depending on your city and category, which works out to about ₹1,200 to ₹3,700 a month. Above that sits a "Growth" or "Top 5" tier for competitive keywords, and JustDial doesn't publish a fixed price for it; the company's own terms say premium placement is priced by category, geography and package, and can rise with keyword traffic. Its investor filings put average yearly realization per advertising client at roughly ₹18,000 to ₹19,500, which is closer to ₹1,500 a month blended across all client sizes than to the higher figures some marketing blogs repeat.

The honest takeaway: JustDial's entry-level paid tier is cheap enough to test, its top tier has no published ceiling, and you should ask for a written quote for your specific category and city before assuming any number you read online, including this one.

When JustDial is still worth the money

JustDial keeps genuine value for a specific set of businesses: urgent local services where someone is calling right now (plumbers, AC repair, locksmiths), businesses in tier-2 and tier-3 cities where JustDial's older user base still searches out of habit, B2B and industrial suppliers who won't show up well on consumer-facing Google searches anyway, and any business that doesn't have a website yet and needs a bookable, callable presence today. Outside those cases, a paid JustDial package is competing with Google Business Profile for a customer's attention, and Google is winning that fight almost everywhere else.

The one-week plan, in order

  1. Claim and completely fill out your Google Business Profile if you haven't: category, hours, description, photos of your real space. This costs nothing and takes under an hour.
  2. Match your name, address and phone exactly across your profile, your website, and JustDial if you're listed there; inconsistent details confuse Google's ranking signals, which is the whole subject of our JustDial keywords and citations guide.
  3. Ask for two happy customers' reviews this week, and reply to every review you already have.
  4. Only then evaluate JustDial's paid tier, for your actual category, with a written quote in hand, and only if you fit one of the cases above.
  5. Check what your website is doing to your local rankings behind the scenes with a free SEO audit; a strong profile still hits a ceiling if the site behind it is missing local schema markup or has mismatched contact details.

If your listing isn't showing up on Maps at all yet, that's a different and more urgent problem than this comparison; start with why your business isn't showing on Google Maps instead. Frequently asked questions

Should I use both JustDial and Google Business Profile? Set up Google Business Profile completely first, it's free and it's where most local searches actually happen. Add JustDial's paid tier afterward only if you're in urgent local services, a tier-2/3 city, B2B supply, or you still don't have a website.

Is JustDial worth paying for? For some businesses, yes. JustDial's own published Standard plans run roughly ₹1,200 to ₹3,700 a month depending on city and category. Its higher "Growth" tier for competitive keywords has no fixed published price, so get a written quote before committing.

Does Google Business Profile cost anything? No. Creating, verifying and fully maintaining a Google Business Profile is free. The only "cost" is the time to fill it in properly and keep it updated.

Does JustDial help with ChatGPT or AI search results? No, not currently. A paid JustDial listing buys placement inside JustDial's own search, not a feed into ChatGPT, Gemini, or Google's AI Overviews. Google Business Profile is the largest single source those AI systems cite for local business answers.

Why isn't my business showing up on Google even with a complete profile? Check your website next. NAP consistency and local schema markup on your own site both affect whether Google trusts your profile fully, and neither shows up by staring at your GBP dashboard; a site crawl catches both.

Is JustDial declining in importance? Its own user behaviour has shifted toward mobile search, and the discovery job it used to do has moved substantially to Google Search and Maps. It still has a real, mostly India-based audience, particularly outside major metros, so "declining" doesn't mean "irrelevant" for every business.
